In your recent comment to Lorine McGinnis Schulze's column on remembering what you had written about, you said that you had an excel spreadsheet. I compile an electronic report for my local genealogy chapter and sometimes I know that I have reported on a certain subject. What, if I may ask, are the headings for your spreadsheet?
My Excel spreadsheet includes the following headings: Idea, Subject Name (Person or Persons), Main Location of Story, Title of Post, Status, Date Planned, Day of Week, Date Published, and Notes.
Excel allows me to sort these headings to look at a particular item, such as all the articles I wrote about a particular person or place. You could also insert headings for additional people mentioned in the story or works referenced. It can be as simple or complex as you prefer.
What I like about this is that it gives me a framework for planning upcoming articles and shows me "holes" or information that I might forget if I just wrote them as I went along. It also gives me a sense of how long I will have to spend on a particular subject.
I assume you already know "Huesca" is a city in the Northen county of Aragon in Spain. If you have not been there I would encourage you to visit. Huesca is a very old city being an Iberian settlement before the Romans came to Spain. The province around it is also called Huesca and includes the Pyrenees mountains and some amazing medieval architecture ( see Castle of Loarre and Monasterio de San Juan de la Pena). There is a total of 896 people with that surname in Spain , which is not a lot for a country of 55 million ( see http://www.ine.es/apellidos/formGeneralresult.do?vista=3). In addition, surnames that are names of places are very common in Spain, because people used to change their surnames to hide their religious past (converted muslims or jews after the Spanish reconquest mostly). There may also be other reasons like serving someone that went in disgrace or being an illegitimate child. Hope it helps,
Thank you for your welcome comment, Anonymous! Indeed, I spent a week in Huesca some years ago and fell in love with the city and the province. Everyone I met, from the mayor to the newspaper reporter who interviewed me to the bus drivers was warm and welcoming. It was hard to leave such a lovely place.
Your information about Spanish surnames is fascinating. Before I can learn how our family took the name, I will have to determine how they arrived in Mexico! That remains a mystery. One day I may have to travel again to the states of Puebla and Veracruz to investigate further. Best regards.
